LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION, HOMEWORK! For Tuesday 13th

The Clip i Chose to analyse is a scene from Family guy, a widely loved American cartoon.

Right at the beginning of the scene there is an extreme long shot of the car with the englishman, it then goes into a medium close up of him contemplating the situation. After which a series of Medium/close ups and long shots add to comedic effect by framing most funny bits in a great way.
The Scene is edited in such as way as to make it fast paced and more interesting for the viewer. cutting from shot to shot in a particular way as to again, frame the more comedic parts to the scene.
Due to the fact that family guy is a cartoon, the set design, lighting and outfits are all fake and so any could be used, this does not change the fact that they are used to great advantage. It is set in a suburban American street which makes it more funny as Pirates are not usually found in these parts and are assumed as a stereotype to be at sea on boats. which is then again represented when the electricity pole creates a makeshift ships mast and sail. the costumes are also then used in the same way. By using the stereotype of a pirates hat and Swashbuckler shirts it just emphisises more that fact that the setting is unordinary.
The Music in the scene is non-diagetic and therefore is not the natural sounds of the surrounding, instead it is edited in for dramatic effect. it builds up in sections to exadurate the situation For instance, when they board the other 'ship' to take its cargo a more dramatic sound is heard.the instruments i think that i can hear in the music are Pianos, violin and maybe some percussion instruments and the music does not seem accidental, it is definatly meant to be that way.

GENRE Homework for Monday.

The film i chose to analyse is 'Zombieland'. It is about a teenage boy Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) who is living in a post-apocalyptic world infested with zombies. These are not the average zombies that have been resurrected but zombies with a virus, much like those seen in 28 days/weeks later films. A short way into the film you find out that it is a strain of mad cow disease which then was eaten in a fast food restaurant and turned into mad person disease and ''gave them a really bad case of the munchies''.
Columbus then meets Tallahassee who is played by Woody Harrelson who is on a quest to find the last remaining Twinkies in the world and on one venture to find some they discover more survivors, Wichita and 'The little rock' who go on to rob them and threaten them at gunpoint. This being one of the main Laughing points in the film, the Rugged Tallahassee being told what to do by a 13 year old with a shotgun.
Columbus is the narrator and throughout the film he explains that he has survived due to following his set of rules for when the zombie apocalypse hit.

01. Cardio - Be able to run for long periods of time with zombies chasing you
02. Double tap - don't be stingy with bullets if a zombie seems dead another shot to the head should make sure of it
03. beware of bathrooms- another laughing point of the film with it saving the main character at least once and catching someone out in the trailer.
04. Seatbelts - Even in a zombie apocalypse wearing a seatbelt is necessary and saves his life a few times
07. Travel Light- Nothing but the complete bare necessities
17. (Dont) be a hero- Explains itself but in the film he breaks his own rule and saves his romantic crush.
18. Limber Up- When about to go into a situation where her may need to run or fight stretching out is vital
22. When in doubt, Know your way out- When going into a strange situation, have an escape route
31. Check the back seat- when getting into a care, check the back seat so that when you start driving a zombie doesnt get a suprise attack from behind on you
32. Enjoy the little things- This is Tallahassee's one he shows Columbus that when the world is against you, it is good to enjoy the little things and in his case... Twinkies.

The film Zombieland in my opinion is one of a recent hybrid combining Gorey-Zombie-horror with dark comedy the combination works well and has done in films like Shaun of the dead etc...
The film was distributed by Columbia pictures so therefore has a large amount of funding due to the fact that Columbia pictures are a large cooperation and was released in the UK on the 7th of October.
The film is credited as having the second highest-grossing start on record for a zombie film behind the Dawn of the Dead Remake.
Due to the fact that it is a hybrid It attracts people who like Zombie films, People who like mindless violence, Comedic fans and people who are intrigued about the genre hybrid. Therefore it is marketed in all of these ways, in the trailers showing (to an extent due to age restrictions, it being a 15) Zombies getting Shot and squashed as well as some of the funny catchphrases and 1-liners.
